Car trips from Taree to the Blue Mountains to visit my grandparents growing up felt like a long time. School holidays being a whole term away felt like a long time. Getting the 120 hours I needed for my learner’s licence felt like it took a long time. At the beginning of my 4 years of Moore College, the end felt a very long time away.
In today’s passage we are told we will be with the Lord forever. As we grow older we come to understand that eternity cannot be measured against anything we experience on this earth.
Death is sadly a reality in our world. In death comes grief and uncertainty for many. This included the Thessalonians. While the world has no hope in the face of death, Christians have the greatest hope of all. We have certainty and assurance of being with the Lord forever. Why?
‘For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.’ 1 Thessalonians 4:14.
Have hope brothers and sisters. Have hope in the Lord Jesus Christ for all eternity.
