I am the way, the truth and the life

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” John 14:1-2.

Whenever we travel for holidays, often we pull out the map, perhaps look at maps online, research the traffic and try to find the best way to get to our destination. There’s always more than one way to get to a place isn’t there? Sometimes people apply this belief to salvation. There are people today that believe that there is more than one way to get to heaven. Surely all paths lead to heaven, it doesn’t matter what you believe?

In this life, it does matter who and what you believe. In John 14, we find Jesus is preparing his final discourse, before he endures the mission of the cross. Here in this chapter we find that Jesus says his famous words: ‘“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” John 14:6. These are challenging and comforting words. They’re challenging because Jesus is the only way to salvation, therefore all other ways you think you can access salvation will be futile. Though this may come to you as a challenging teaching, there is comfort in believing Jesus is the only way. We only need to worry about one God. And this same God says to us today

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” John 14:1-2.

We have a great assurance in Jesus of a heavenly home, and therefore we can have a great joy in persevering in this life as we are homeward bound.
