Wisdom and doing good

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.

The book of Proverbs key verse is

1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (knowledge).

We are wise in God’s eyes when we trust and revere our Lord God. For us as Christians, we begin to be wise when we come under the Lordship of Christ and seek to live under His will.

We grow in wisdom when we seek to obey the Lord’s commands even though at times, it may seem contrary to the world’s ideals. Doing good to one another is such a command that shows we are growing in godly wisdom.

If we truly love God we will love our neighbour. Doing good to one another ought to be a response to God’s great goodness in giving us the Lord Jesus for our forgiveness, His Holy Spirit and the assurance of heaven. When we do good to one another we do good to Jesus and also to ourselves. Jesus said, It is more blessed to give than to receive!

Conversely when we don’t take the opportunity to do good to others, we rob the Lord Jesus of his deserved good praise and honour.

So in Proverbs 3:27 we have the challenge:

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.

Thank you to those who seek to do good in your Christian service and in your generosity when the opportunity arises.
